Urban Atlantic's Caroline Kenney Honored with ULI Washington Award

Leadership Award Recognizes Exemplary Mid-Career Professional

(BETHESDA, MD) — Recognizing her commitment to creating high quality, inclusive community and economic development and extraordinary abilities to bring all stakeholders together on complex real estate projects, ULI Washington honored Caroline Kenney with its first ever Groundbreaker Award that recognizes the talent and accomplishments of an exceptional development leader. The award presented last evening is one of three leadership awards that celebrate the region’s top real estate innovators who demonstrate unmatched leadership.

“The Groundbreaker Award recognizes what we at Urban Atlantic have known ever since Caroline joined us, that she is a superstar.  She has a passion for serving people and commitment to working with communities and leading large, diverse teams with partners, investors, government agencies and others that are critical to success and creating great places and communities. We are so proud of her and the strong personal and professional community she has built around us all,” said Vicki Davis, Managing Partner at Urban Atlantic.

Throughout her more than 20 years in the community development industry, Caroline has learned how to bring together community stakeholders, public agencies and elected officials, non-profit institutions, private development partners, public and private financial partners, large development teams, and end users to identify alignment around shared goals and inclusive processes to yield the strongest outcomes for all.  Current projects include the redevelopment of the 66-acre former Walter Reed Army Hospital Center campus with partners Hines and Triden Development Group, and 4.9 million square feet of development on the site of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in partnership with Madison Marquette.

She has developed expertise in multiple asset types, with a focus on rental, for-sale residential, and mixed-use, including the full array of affordable, workforce, mixed-income, market rate, individual, family and senior housing. Her broad experience combined with her strategic approach, kindness and inclusiveness, coupled with very hard work and astute attention to detail, has enabled her to successfully lead transformational and catalytic projects that represent Urban Atlantic’s core value of inclusivity and further expand the mixed-income, multigenerational communities that the company creates in partnership with urban development leaders.

Caroline has worked with a wide range of public partners including the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority; multiple agencies of the District of Columbia; housing authorities in Washington DC, Tampa, Greensboro, NC, Memphis, TN, Baltimore, MD, and Charlotte, NC; the Prince’s George’s County Redevelopment Authority; and the Armed Forces Retirement Home. Caroline has also been involved in Urban Atlantic’s New Markets Tax Credits and EB-5 investment programs, as well as portfolio asset management.
